Responsible Tourism
As of June 1, 2019, the use, manufacture or import of plastic bags, including garbage bags and shopping bags, is illegal in Tanzania.
Convicted offenders, including tourists, risk heavy fines, up to two years' imprisonment, or both. Items purchased at the airport before boarding the plane must therefore be removed from plastic bags. Similarly, clear plastic bags, which some airlines ask passengers to use to keep liquids, cosmetics, toiletries, etc. separately in hand luggage, are not permitted either. They must also be removed and left on the plane.
So be sure to check your luggage before you fly, and opt for cloth bags instead. Kilimanjaro National Park and nature reserves will thank you.
We support a non-profit association that aims to develop more sustainable tourism. This association helps the most disadvantaged Tanzanian children with schooling and sponsorship (orphans, Maasai women...) through humanitarian projects. Every holiday sold by Terre Authentic Tours contributes to the development of the association's projects: ACTION ENFANTS D`AFRIQUE.
